Marjorie Taylor Greene, an avid supporter of the Trump administration&#8217;s trade policies, not only bought stocks last week as others <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/stock-market-today-dow-jones-sp-500-tariffs-04-08-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">dumped them in a panic<\/a><\/span> \u2014 she scooped up some of the biggest losers.<\/p>\n<p>Lululemon, Dell Computer, Amazon, the parent of Restoration Hardware and a few others hit hard by President Trump&#8217;s tariff threats were down 40% on average late last week when the Georgia Republican\u00a0pounced.<\/p>\n<p>Data from a required three-page financial holdings document doesn&#8217;t disclose exactly how much she paid for the stocks, only ranges and dates. <\/p>\n<p>But however much she spent, some of her bets are working out so far, at least as of <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/stock-market-today-dow-jones-china-tariffs-trump-04-09-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Wednesday&#8217;s close<\/a><\/span>, after markets soared on Mr. Trump&#8217;s <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-announces-90-day-tariffs-pause\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">decision to pause<\/a><\/span> most of his &#8220;reciprocal tariffs&#8221; on nations other than China for 90 days. Markets fell again Thursday, but remain above Wednesday morning&#8217;s levels.<\/p>\n<p>RH, formerly called Restoration Hardware, is Greene&#8217;s clear winner. It jumped more than a third since Friday&#8217;s close, when she bought it after a <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sanfrancisco\/news\/bay-area-companies-see-shares-tank-after-trump-tariffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">stunning collapse in price<\/a><\/span> that shook even the head of the furniture retailer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh, sh\u2026!,&#8221; said RH CEO Gary Friedman in a conference call last week as the stock plunged.<\/p>\n<p>Dell has jumped 9% since Greene bought the stock last week after it had lost more than half its value.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers from both major parties have <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/matt-gaetz-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-congress-stock-ban-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">proposed bills<\/a><\/span> banning members from stock trading because of the apparent conflict of interest in owning shares of companies they can heavily influence with positions they can take in office. <\/p>\n<p>But none of the clunkily named bills \u2014 The Transparent Representation Upholding Service and Trust in Congress Act, for instance \u2014 has been passed. A new bill, The End Congressional Stock Trading Act, was proposed last month.<\/p>\n<p>Greene&#8217;s office has not responded to Associated Press requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The MAGA supporter has been outspoken in her support of Mr. Trump&#8217;s tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tariffs are a powerful proven source of leverage to protect our national interests,&#8221; she posted on X earlier this year, adding, &#8220;We will win this trade war.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hours before halting most of the tariffs Wednesday, Mr. Trump steered his supporters to the markets, writing on his Truth Social platform, &#8220;THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Investors are not completely convinced.<\/p>\n<p>After surging on Wednesday when Mr. Trump called a partial halt to the import taxes, stocks were heading down again Thursday. The S&amp;P 500 <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/stock-market-down-trump-tariff-trade-war-04-10-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">closed down 3.5%<\/a><\/span> Thursday afternoon, paring back many \u2014 but not all \u2014 of Wednesday&#8217;s gains.
