{"id":327,"date":"2025-03-20T19:40:56","date_gmt":"2025-03-20T19:40:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gunnewsusa.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/20\/us-sanctions-china-based-refinery-that-purchased-oil-from-houthi-linked-ships\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T19:40:57","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T19:40:57","slug":"us-sanctions-china-based-refinery-that-purchased-oil-from-houthi-linked-ships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunnewsusa.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/20\/us-sanctions-china-based-refinery-that-purchased-oil-from-houthi-linked-ships\/","title":{"rendered":"US Sanctions China-Based Refinery That Purchased Oil From Houthi-Linked Ships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"ignorediv\">\n                                        <!-- Story Text --><br \/>\n                                                                                <b class=\"place_cont\">Washington: <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The United States on Thursday sanctioned a China-based oil refinery that purchased Iranian oil worth around $500 million from Huthi-linked ships, as the White House ramps up pressure on Iran.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the US Treasury Department announced it was sanctioning a &#8220;teapot refinery&#8221; based in China&#8217;s Shandong province which bought Iranian oil worth &#8220;approximately half a billion dollars.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--MIDTABOOLA--><\/p>\n<p>Teapot refineries are small, privately-owned operations in China, and stand in contrast to the larger state-owned enterprises in the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since returning to office, US President Donald Trump reinstated a campaign of &#8220;maximum pressure&#8221; against Iran, and has already rolled out sanctions against several individuals and entities, including the country&#8217;s oil minister.<\/p>\n<p>The oil in question was transported by Iran&#8217;s so-called &#8220;shadow fleet&#8221; of tankers, according to the Treasury Department, including from ships linked to the Huthis, and to the Iranian ministry of defense of armed forces logistics, MODAFL.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Department also sanctioned an additional 19 ships and companies responsible for supplying the refineries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Teapot refinery purchases of Iranian oil provide the primary economic lifeline for the Iranian regime, the world&#8217;s leading state sponsor of terror,&#8221; Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The US State Department unveiled its own sanctions against a Chinese oil terminal on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These sanctions are being imposed pursuant to President Trump&#8217;s maximum pressure campaign to drive Iran&#8217;s oil exports, including to China, to zero,&#8221; State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;China is by far the largest importer of Iranian oil,&#8221; she continued, adding that Tehran used these oil revenues to &#8220;finance attacks&#8221; against US allies, and to support terrorism around the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>(Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>                                        <!-- Featured Video --><br \/>\n                                                                                                                        <!-- Recommended Widget -->\n                                                                                                                    <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington: The United States on Thursday sanctioned a China-based oil refinery that purchased Iranian oil worth around $500 million from Huthi-linked ships, as the White House ramps up pressure on Iran.
