Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York was poised to fill the role before Mr. Trump <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/elise-stefanik-nomination-un-ambassador-in-jeopardy\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">pulled her nomination<\/a><\/span>, citing House Republicans&#8217; slim majority and needing her vote to help advance his agenda. Mr. Trump said in May\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-mike-waltz-alex-wong\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">he would move Mike Waltz<\/a><\/span>, his national security adviser, to the position.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are 22 Cabinet positions, each requiring Senate confirmation. CBS News also included the divisive vote for FBI director, which is not a Cabinet role, in our tally.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Republicans largely fell in line, even after some expressed concern about Mr. Trump&#8217;s more controversial picks, while few Democrats were willing to give them their stamp of approval, especially as the president moved to overhaul the federal agencies that these nominees oversee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how members of each party voted:<\/p>\n<div>\n<div style=\"min-height:1321px\" id=\"datawrapper-vis-zkM6p\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A handful of Democrats supported nearly half of the nominees. Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Ruben Gallego of Arizona, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, John Hickenlooper of Colorado and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire each voted for 10 of Mr. Trump&#8217;s nominees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ten Democrats supported only one of Mr. Trump&#8217;s picks \u2014 Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who represented Florida in the Senate before <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/marco-rubio-confirmed-secretary-of-state-senate\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">his confirmation<\/a><\/span>. Rubio was confirmed hours after Mr. Trump was sworn in and was the only nominee to receive unanimous support. But at least two of the Democrats who only voted for Rubio \u2014 Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut and Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland \u2014 have since said they regretted backing him, given the Trump administration&#8217;s treatment of Ukraine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Besides Rubio, seven other nominees received significant support from Democrats: Interior Secretary <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/doug-burgum-confirmed-by-senate-interior-secretary\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Doug Burgum<\/a><\/span>, Transportation Secretary <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/sean-duffy-transportation-senate-confirmation-vote\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Sean Duffy<\/a><\/span>, Veterans Affairs Secretary <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/doug-collins-confirmed-veterans-affairs-secretary\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Doug Collins<\/a><\/span>, CIA Director <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/john-ratcliffe-cia-director-senate-vote\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">John Ratcliffe<\/a><\/span>, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Treasury Secretary <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/scott-bessent-treasury-secretary-confirmation-vote\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Scott Bessent<\/a><\/span> and Labor Secretary <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/lori-chavez-deremer-labor-secretary-confirmation-vote\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Lori Chavez-DeRemer<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>See more <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1mfwEkedsG3j1q7v4S2AEDADukjxNcag84AY_lRhFVww\/edit?gid=0#gid=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here<\/a> on how each Democrat voted for every nominee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<div style=\"min-height:1438px\" id=\"datawrapper-vis-m8uRf\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/m8uRf\/full.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Only five of the 53 Republicans in the upper chamber defected to vote against at least one of the president&#8217;s nominees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky led the pack with four &#8220;no&#8221; votes. He voted against Defense Secretary <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/pete-hegseth-confirmation-vote-senate-defense-secretary\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Pete Hegseth<\/a><\/span>, Director of National Intelligence <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/tulsi-gabbard-confirmation-vote-senate-director-of-national-intelligence\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Tulsi Gabbard<\/a><\/span>, Health and Human Services Secretary <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/senate-to-vote-on-rfk-jr-s-confirmation-for-health-human-services-secretary\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/a><\/span> and Chavez-DeRemer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska also voted against Hegseth, forcing Vice President JD Vance to cast a tie-breaking vote. Collins and Murkowski also withheld their support from <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/kash-patel-fbi-director-senate-confirmation-vote\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Kash Patel<\/a><\/span>, who was narrowly confirmed as FBI director.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who isn&#8217;t afraid to buck his party, voted against Jamieson Greer as U.S. trade representative and Chavez-DeRemer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Ted Budd of North Carolina cast his only &#8220;no&#8221; vote against Chavez-DeRemer. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So far, 40 Republican senators have voted in favor of all of the nominees.
