military officer, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine, are holding a press conference Thursday to discuss the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/on-the-ground-in-tehran-in-wake-of-israel-iran-ceasefire\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">strikes on Iran<\/a><\/span> as the Trump administration has been <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/cia-irans-nuclear-program-severely-damaged-trump-iran-strikes-fbi-probes-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">defending the impact<\/a><\/span> of those strikes.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump announced the press conference on Wednesday night, saying Hegseth and &#8220;military representatives&#8221; would discuss the U.S. strikes on Iran&#8217;s nuclear facilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/cia-irans-nuclear-program-severely-damaged-trump-iran-strikes-fbi-probes-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">initial assessment suggested<\/a><\/span> the operation potentially only set back Iran&#8217;s nuclear program by a matter of months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The initial assessment was conducted by the Defense Intelligence Agency, and according to a senior DIA official, was considered a &#8220;preliminary, low confidence assessment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Hegseth slammed media outlets for &#8220;breathlessly&#8221; reporting the &#8220;initial&#8221; assessment.
